Although our restaurant Marlene's has its own Michelin star, it is not far from others in terms of food and drink.

When we arrived at the hotel, we ordered a club sandwich which was delivered to our room, but the location was also rated as mediocre. Zoologischer Garten station is the nearest underground stop to the hotel and a 15-minute walk from the train station. There is a bus line 200 between this station and our hotel, so we used it. The nearest metro stops are the Metro station and there are two other stops in the area, one at Upland and the other at Central Station.

The IHG Premier credit card offers you one free night per year, which is a great redemption. As the hotel costs a reasonable 40,000 points per night and you can use free credentials here, this is a good deal and another great way to demonstrate your value as a cardholder.

I had less than a day to spend in Berlin before I had to return to work in New York and fly back to the US for a week - a long holiday before I flew to New York early next week. I went to my concierge to check on the cheap and entertaining lunch deals nearby. As she had recommended, I ventured out and quickly found the café near the New Lake and found a good selection of delicious food and a great atmosphere.
